The short answer

Crimson Moon has no traditional locked classes. Your role comes from one- or two-handed weapons, shields, armor perks, rings, talismans, Weapon Arts, temporary boons, and Angel forms such as Aegis or Sunder.

Are there traditional classes?

No. You do not choose Warrior, Mage, or Rogue at character creation. Every run begins with a loadout, and that equipment creates the role. Swapping a shield for a heavier weapon can turn the same Nephilim from a defensive anchor into a burst-damage bruiser.

The pieces that define your build

  • Weapons and shields: set attack cadence, reach, defense, and available skills.
  • Weapon Arts: cooldown abilities attached to gear.
  • Armor: stats, perks, and your visible silhouette.
  • Rings and talismans: supporting passives and synergies.
  • Boons: temporary run modifiers that can push status or damage themes.
  • Angel forms: powerful transformations that inherit parts of your setup.

Three strong ways to think about builds

Shielded survivor

Pair a one-handed weapon with a shield and prioritize defense, life economy, and safe Weapon Arts. This is the friendliest first build and a reliable co-op reviver.

Heavy stagger hunter

Use a two-handed axe, halberd, or spear to trade defense for reach and impact. Build around windows created by boss recovery animations rather than constant swings.

Status engine

Stack matching perks and boons around poison, frost, mark, or another effect. Status builds can be explosive when the pieces align, but a bad run of drops may leave the setup incomplete.

Practical build tips

  1. Build around a repeatable interaction, not item color alone.
  2. Keep a dependable purified loadout for high difficulty.
  3. Bank a promising item in your limited pocket if equipping it would weaken the current run.
  4. Match your Angel form to the job: survivability, control, or damage.
No fixed best class: Loot rolls and personal timing matter. A coherent epic setup can outperform a pile of unrelated legendary items.

Frequently asked questions

How many classes are in Crimson Moon?

There are no traditional selectable classes. Builds are created through equipment, perks, boons, Weapon Arts, and Angel forms.

Can you switch builds?

Yes. You can change your hub loadout between runs and equip suitable finds during a run, although launch reporting notes limitations between run stages.

What is the best beginner build?

A one-handed weapon and shield is the safest starting point because it combines defense with access to a second skill.

Are Angel forms classes?

Not exactly. They are powerful transformations that supplement and inherit parts of your equipment build.
